The Journey ~ Music by Holly Reed ~
Lyrics from Ben Gunn's poem "A Western Tour"

From Kansas in the early spring, I left one sunny day
Headed for the golden West, how far my journey lay
On Kansas River's southern side, a range of hills stands high
Beneath the sun at bright noontide, it greets the passers by

Farther on as one goes through where but few houses stand
No hills no trees obstruct the view, a level treeless land
Above the sea almost a mile, I breathed the mountain air
Stroll around and all the while reigned quiet everywhere

And as I pass through dale and glen, I peer through dismal light
To see what I had never seen before, a rare and awesome sight
The yellow man, the red man, the white man and the black
Together on one platform stand beside the railroad track

And then I reach the ocean, walk in and dive beneath
Mountain waves above me leap as I gaze into the deep
And Kansas seemed a world away as I breathe the salty air
Walk along the sandy beach, the sea breeze in my hair
